Half of the troubles of this life can be traced to saying yes too quickly and not saying no soon enough.

… (gasp) No Stockings! (Part 2 of 3)

Last week I asked,

“What advice did your career center give you when you graduated from undergrad?”

Much of the advice we received (back then) is no longer relevant. My biggest pet peeve … nude stockings!

I remember seeing the First Lady of our country on television in a dress and pumps with … (gasp) no stockings! I declared at that exact moment, if she does not have to wear them, neither do I.

In an Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn world, there is an abundance of information available to a potential employer about you (personal and professional).  Managing your professional image is no longer just about finding that perfect navy blue suit (or nude stockings).

Your online image can carry just as much weight with potential employers, customers, and clients, as your first in-person meeting.

Have you Googled yourself lately? If not, you should. Go ahead, I’ll wait…

What information was available about you?  What kind of impression would this make on a potential employer or customer?

  • In this age of social media, what are the “New Rules?”
  • What is your branded image (online & in-person)?
  • How do you create a professional online competitive edge?

Further, was it just me, or was nude the most unflattering hue available … I digress …

What advice did you receive that is no longer relevant?  What are the current “Rules of the Game?”
