Dr. Gia & Randy Emelo

On April 14th, ATDChi hosted a Modern Mentoring Skill Building Clinic called Building Your Learning Network with guest speaker, Randy Emelo. Randy is the Founder and Chief Strategist of RIVER. He is also the author of Modern Mentoring.

One of the most impactful statements shared by Mr. Emelo was,

“It is impossible to achieve mastery without giving your knowledge to others”Randy Emelo

During this exciting program, future mentors and proteges’ were challenged to rethink the traditional one-on-one model and see mentoring as a flexible and dynamic learning relationship between learner and advisor.

Effective In-sertice Education Requires More Than Subject Expertise

Journal of Healthcare Risk Management

Volume 29, Issue 3 pages 15–21, 2010

The development of a training program is not an event but rather a process. This process is driven by the business needs of the organization for a specific target audience … SMEs are somethings so good at what they do that they leave out information or performance steps that are intuitive for them (but not their students).  Krishna Lynch & Dr. Gia Suggs (p. 17)
