Work Life Balance … Really?
We welcome Krishna Lynch a Healthcare Consultant who graduated with a Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. She vehemently challenges the notion of work-life balance.
Work Life Balance … Really? I hear much talk about the need for “work life balance.”
Is “work life balance” even a realistic goal? Or do you find it to be elusive?
Does it really represent the “new normal” of today given our preoccupation with busyness, multi-role/multi-tasking, technology and social media, just to name a few?
My Take:
The look and feel of balance is different for each person. For me, my perspective has shifted. I no longer seek balance, but rather fulfillment, engagement/socialization, and energy management.
I choose not to become overwhelmed with attaining “balance” or contemplating whether I truly have enough balance in my life. Instead, I prefer to think about what gives me fulfillment; what am I most passionate about; and how to stay energized to manage the demands of daily life. I strive to approach each day with this mindset.
So, any given day/week of mine may focus on one, two, three, or all of the following: family, work, rest, friends, socializing, or fitness.
For this will allow me to be an inspiration to others.
So again I ask, is there really such a thing as “work life balance?” What do you think?
